Academic Programs Manager

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES
As a team member of the Education Department, the Academic Programs Manager creates and implements programming to complement the Museum’s goals and Education Department’s philosophy. The Academic Programs Manager creates and supports the Museum’s K-12 academic community initiatives. The Academic Programs Manager serves as one of the main contacts to public and private schools as well as county school district offices.

The ideal candidate is an experienced, highly motivated, organized individual with a passion for the visual arts; demonstrates the ability to think creatively and strategically to engage educator and student audiences; possesses excellent communication skills; maintains high energy and a hands-on work ethic; and performs under pressure to meet deadlines.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops new relationships and maintains established relationships with area educators, works with them to increase their understanding of the museum as an educational resource and instructs them on ways to integrate the visual arts into their curriculum through in-museum programs, special school projects, professional development workshops, and teacher materials.
  • Implements existing virtual field trip tours and creates new ones.
  • Produces grade-specific, interdisciplinary museum lesson plans that utilize the Museum’s collections/exhibitions in conjunction with the FL State Standards.
  • Plans and coordinates existing outreach with community partners for K-12 students and recommends new outreach programs in the community. Manages budget, contractual teachers, and acts as the lead museum contact with community organizations.
  • Oversees the Museum’s Field Trip Fund grant program for educators. Produces annual application, reviews submissions, completes all correspondence, and accounting paperwork. Coordinates scheduling with Educational Programs Coordinator.
  • Assists with docent training – the instruction and evaluation of docents.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of assessment tools to evaluate programs planned by the Education Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS

  • Master’s Degree in Art History, Education or related subject required
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience with the development and implementation of K-12 educational programming in museums/schools, including curriculum development, teaching/training, and program design
  • Knowledge of art history and studio art; experience with program implementation
  • Exceptional administrative and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills required with attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities and maintain friendly and courteous relationships with the staff, board, and patrons
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule of hours that will include some evenings and some weekends

  • Stand and walk throughout the work day, including sitting and bending; reach, lift, carry, and manipulate various materials, supplies and equipment; arrange furniture
  • Work is performed both indoors and outdoors
  • Be knowledgeable with the use of and the requirement to wear protective gear when appropriate. (PPE will be assigned as needed)
  • Be able to function independently
  • Be in good general health
  • Work requires continuous activity and with frequent interruptions
  • May be required to work extended hours or on weekends when the work load requires

HOURS OF POSITION
40 hours per week - (FT Exempt/Salaried)

Full Benefits

The Annual Salary is $58,000.
