The Curatorial Fellow, on a 12-month visiting A&P appointment, works under the supervision of the Curator of Collections to primarily conduct research related to the re-installation of the permanent collection galleries at The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and to exhibitions that will be installed over the next few years.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performs scholarly research and documentation of The Ringling's collections of European art in support of the ongoing, multi-year curatorial project to reinstall the permanent collection galleries of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Also provides general assistance to the re-installation project as needed.
  • Provides research and other curatorial support for future exhibition projects in the area of European art, as well as potentially for exhibition projects in the areas of Modern and Contemporary Art, Photography and Media Art, and Asian Art. May aid in the preparation of exhibition catalogues relating to those projects.
  • May lead public gallery talks and/or give public lectures about curatorial work and research findings.
  • May assist with grant proposal preparation for exhibition and/or re-installation projects. Special projects and other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor's degree and 2 years' experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to 6 years. Relevant training may substitute for experience.

  • Knowledge of collections development, acquisitions, and cataloguing.
  • Ability to understand and interpret terminology related to area of work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply the processes, procedures and methods used in museum operations in compliance with applicable governing entities such as the American Association of Museums.
  • Knowledge of applicable computer applications and basic computer functions.


  • Master's degree in Art History or related field.
  • Reading knowledge of at least one European language, with a preference for Italian.

Anticipated Salary Range
Up to $33,000 + Florida state benefits available (

Pay Plan
This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Soft Money Funded Position
This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.

While the primary working hours for this position are between 8:00 am to 5:00 pm (with a one hour meal period) Monday through Friday, the incumbent may be required to work a flexible schedule including days, weekends, or special events.

Criminal Background Check
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
