Job Summary:

The Director Development Division is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, directing and managing all fund raising , marketing, special events and public relations programs. Responsible for cultivation management and direction of the Museum’s capital and endowment campaign.  The Development Director is also responsible for organizing and and implementing a comprehensive gifts solicitation and implementation program and a related overall marketing program. Perform all duties in strict compliance with St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum, Inc. (the Company) policies and procedures, regulations and other applicable federal, state and local laws. 

Major Responsibilities:

Accountable and responsible for financial Targets outlined in KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators) as indicated for each catagory: Cultivation $, Benevon Fundraising $, Capital Campaign $, Annual Appeal $.

Directs the management of the memberships & bricks, major donors, planned giving, foundation and corporate grants, direct mail, special events, grant writing and general contributions. KPI - Coach the Development Membership Coordinator to be a success, including Data-Base Mgmt, not by performing that position.

Manages staff for ongoing activities. Create and oversee program, staffing and budget plans for development and fundraising.

Develop, implement and manages all cultivation, fundraising activities, General Fund, Major Gifts, Capital Fund, Endowment, Benevon Fundraising Program and the Capital campaign; including cultivation of major donors as the center of this position’s activity.

Direct the planned giving program. Manages the Donor Wall and Naming Opportunities for the Company.

Coordinate Museum’s overall public advocacy efforts, manages PR and develops cases for support.

Write grant proposals for Museum programs.

Participate in senior management meetings.  Assist in strategic planning, quality initiatives, and problem solving to meet the facility business and quality goals and objectives.  Serve as senior management designee, as required.

Directs special events including Cultivation events, annual Lighthouse Festival,  Veterans Day Activities, Luminary Night and others as required.

Perform other duties as assigned.


Perform performance evaluations for appropriate staff.  Establish performance standards and goals and expectations for direct reports.  Provide and support professional development opportunities.

Frequent contact with management, staff, and vendors. Responsible for overseeing budget execution and capital assets. Supervise direct reports. Responsible for coordinating appropriate personal development plans through professional memberships and conference attendance or other sources.


Baccalaureate degree required. Two years supervisory or project management experience.  Basic computer skills and experience with word processing and database management.  Excellent presentation skills.  Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent planning and organizational skills. Outstanding interpersonal and managerial skills.  Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects effectively and meet deadlines.

Essential Functions/Physical Requirements:

The duties above indicate the essential functions of the job.  Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions.   A moderate amount of business travel is required. Must be able to climb the lighthouse tower and perform required duties for periods of 2.5 hours in Florida climate. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable business needs. Able to lift 25 pounds.
