MUSEUM DESCRIPTION:
The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is a new institution currently under construction with a projected opening date in spring 2018.  The 87,000 SF facility will house the significant collection of Western and wildlife art collected by Tom and Mary James over the past 35 years. The facility will include 30,000 SF of gallery space, a 4,000 SF special exhibitions gallery, a 141-seat auditorium, a 6,000 SF special events rental space, a double height lobby with water feature, store, café, education classrooms, over 200 covered parking spaces, on-site collection storage, administration offices, and back of house service facilities. Planned programming includes special exhibitions in a variety of genres, artist talks and demonstrations, art classes, lectures, performances, docent-led tours, and a variety of activities for children and families.

ABOUT THE POSITION:
The Director of Finance and Administration is a senior management team member who works closely with the Executive Director to provide operational leadership and oversight in all matters of ongoing financial management, accounting and strategic business development. The CFO will develop and maintain systems and procedures for the Museum financial operations, exercising independent judgment to ensure conformity with fiscal best practices, Museum policies and goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and implement fiscal policies and procedures
  • Create and prepare budgets and strategize the allocation of resources efficiently among various income streams and expenditures
  • Create and implement financial reporting and present results to senior museum staff and the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee complete monthly financial statement process, with overall responsibility for managing and monitoring revenues, expense, and cash flows
  • Supervise and assist in month-end closing of accounting records, with responsibility for the accuracy of the general ledger
  • Manage all banking and investment relationships, loans and lines of credit ensuring that the organization is maximizing benefits and minimizing costs
  • Work closely with the development team to create annual and long-term fundraising goals that support the operating and program expenditure budgets
  • Manage all insurance programs of the organization and recommend insurance requirements and policies.
  • Maintain up-to-date oversight and compliance on non-profit best practices and federal and state laws regarding non-profit operations
  • Oversee management of payroll processing to ensure accuracy/reliability of data, and related tax obligations and reporting
  • The CFO will lead in the selection and implementation of newly selected general ledger and accounting system software
  • As determined by the Executive Director and board, the CFO may be assigned some administrative and operating management duties. This is a small organization which requires high levels of collaboration among the management team
  • Develop and manage HR and IT

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong leadership skills, including the ability to promote cooperation and collaboration among various stakeholders and teams
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Strong IT skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Stellar management skills and the ability to multi-task

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or a related field is required. MBA preferred but not required
  • Minimum of seven years of relevant experience in finance and accounting
  • Licensed CPA in good standing
  • Proven track record in strategic financial management and analysis, budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience in a non-profit environment would be a plus

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office and Museum environment
  • Standard hours (generally within 8:00am-6:00pm, Monday-Friday)
