Explorations V Children’s Museum in Lakeland, Florida seeks an Executive Director with the vision and ability to lead and guide its growth. In partnership with an engaged Board of Directors, the Executive Director will follow a strategic plan including but not limited to: conceiving annual permanent and special exhibitions; protecting the Museum’s four-story historic building, contents and cultural exhibits based in the arts and sciences; overseeing interactive cultural education, outreach programs and special events; implementing fundraising strategies to increase revenue streams; and securing the Museum’s position as THE MUST-SEE, hands-on, and fun-filled cultural destination in Central Florida.

The Executive Director will serve as chief spokesperson and advocate for the Museum in the broader community, while generating public interest and participation from a wide and diverse range of constituents through special events, board fundraisers and grants. In addition, the Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing, managing and inspiring a staff of 19+ professionals as well as volunteer groups.

Primary Responsibilities Include:

1. Strategic Planning

Forecasts and plans for future development and growth. Conducts annual strategic planning session with the Board and staff. Prepares an annual plan of goals and objectives for the Museum. Refines, sharpens and continually communicates the mission of the Museum.

2. Business & Fiscal Management

Prepares, implements and ensures adherence to the annual budget. Determines sources of short and long-term funding for museum activities. Grant management, including: preparation, supervision and implementation, of requests for all public funded appeals and private funded proposals. Supervises business affairs and record keeping, ensuring internal controls are established.

3. Human Resources

Selection, management and termination of senior management and academic assistant. Sets compensation of all employees through budget process. Assists and offers support to board nomination and selection process. Conducts board orientation and offers support for further training and development.

4. Public Relations

Represents the Museum in its relationships with county, state and national agencies, and museum associations. Media spokesperson.

5. Policy

Interprets and enforces the policies of the board. Attends board meetings. Presents to the Board regular reports reflecting the programs, services and financial activities of the Museum.

The Board seeks a diverse pool of candidates. The finalist will be required to successfully pass a background check and fingerprinting.  Compensation commensurate with experience.
