The Museum is seeking a Graphic Designer to manage the visual identity and graphic design needs of the Norton Museum of Art, across all departments. This includes design and production of a diverse set of publications and projects in print, digital, and other formats (such as signage) that serve initiatives in marketing, fundraising, educational programs, campus wayfinding, facility rentals, restaurant, store, Trustee communications, and general administration.
Housed in the Communications Department, the Graphic Designer reports to the Deputy Director of the Museum and works collaboratively with all departments to understand their objectives requiring design, and to plan and produce solutions to meet those objectives. Development of a clear production process and strict adherence to deadlines and budgets are essential in this position. The Graphic Designer manages relationships with external production vendors (such as printers) and assures their work meets the Museum’s requirements for deadlines, budget, and quality. The Graphic Designer is also responsible for identifying and managing sources for supplemental part-time or freelance design help during the Museum’s busiest times of the season.
The Graphic Designer takes leadership in ensuring consistency in use of the Museum’s visual identity across a broad range of platforms. This includes an understanding of the institution’s goals and key messages, and prioritizing these when building projects. The Graphic Designer is a key member of the Communications Department, which includes public relations, copywriting and editing, marketing, digital communications, and graphic design.
Candidates should possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree and at least five years of demonstrated and progressively developing work in graphic design. A degree in graphic design or fine arts is preferred, but may be substituted in consideration of professional experience. A love of art and museums is helpful, as is flexibility in a fast-paced workplace, a strong work ethic, and a sense of humor. Interested candidates should submit a resume, letter of interest, three references, and a representative sample of recent and current work to email@example.com
The Norton Museum of Art is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
