THE JAMES MUSEUM OF WESTERN AND WILDLIFE ART 

SAINT PETERSBURG, FLORIDA

 

 MUSEUM DESCRIPTION:
The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art is a new institution currently under construction with a projected opening date in spring 2018.  The 87,000 SF facility will house the significant collection of Western and wildlife art collected by Tom and Mary James over the past 35 years. The facility will include 30,000 SF of gallery space, a 4,000 SF special exhibitions gallery, a 141seat auditorium, a 6,000 SF special events rental space, a double height lobby with water feature, store, café, education classrooms, over 200 covered parking spaces, on‐site collection storage, administration offices, and back of house service facilities. Planned programming includes special exhibitions in a variety of genres, artist talks and demonstrations, art classes, lectures, performances, docent‐led tours, and a variety of activities for children and families. 

ABOUT THE POSITION:

  • Reporting to, and working closely with the Director of Finance and Administration, define the strategic direction of all information technology and communication systems and operations within the Museum
  • Synchronize departmental information technology directions with institutional goals and 
  • Plan, develop, organize and direct all activities of the Information TechnologyDepartment to support administrative and business functions
  • Advise senior management in the purchasing of hardware and software solutions, and manage the installation and training of same

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:

  • Provide vision for the application of information technology in the Museum. Areas include computers and their operating systems, application software, data communications, data administration, and any application development
  • Develop and report the IT department's strategic plans
  • Maintains the integrity and security of electronic data
  • Set and maintain standards for computer hardware, software and operating systems, and supporting communications networks and technologies
  • Evaluate and manage data communication networks
  • Purchase computer hardware, operating systems, application software, communication networks, and their maintenance
  • Coordinate the installation of computer hardware, software and data communication networks.
  • Coordinate user's acceptance of major software products and hardware platforms.  Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting
  • Forecast and prepare yearly departmental operating budget and be responsible for its oversight
  • Oversee training, employee feedback and performance assessment for IT staff as required
  • Perform additional duties as required

Detail oriented; manage the effective use of resources to achieve efficient and secure technology solutions

  • Motivate, guide, direct and train staff
  • Update and utilize job‐related knowledge
  • Organize, plan and prioritize
  • Troubleshoot areas related to technology opportunities and threats
  • Coordinate the work and activities of staff
  • Perform administrative activities such as scheduling, budgeting and purchasing
  • Be pro‐active and hands‐on in all museum activities; collaborate well with museum staff

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Four‐year related degree desired
  • Five‐year minimum years of information technology systems and management experience
  • Museum experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication

JOB TYPE:

  • Full Time

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Office, Museum gallery, and workshop environment
  • Non‐standard hours (generally within 8:00am‐6:00pm, Monday‐Friday)
  • Extended nights and weekends probable
  • Position requires sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and strenuous lifting/moving objects up to 50 lbs.
