Museum Store Clerk Job Description
Customer services skills are of paramount importance to the Museum Store Clerk position. Museum Store Clerks must promptly and courteously greet customers with a smile as they enter the store.
The Museum Store Clerk must be comfortable working with money, a cash register and credit card machine. The Museum Store Clerk must not get distracted from their position and stay focused and aware of the cash register at all times. Prior sales associate experience is recommended for this position.
The Museum Store Clerk must be able to stand for long periods of time and must always be alert to customers in the store. This employee must be quick on their feet and know how to handle long lines of shoppers quickly and efficiently.
The Museum Store Clerk must be knowledgeable of the merchandise available in the museum store.
The Museum Store Clerk also works as an ambassador and information officer to the Lightner Museum and the City of St. Augustine. This employee must be prepared to answer general questions about the museum, its collection and history. This employee must also be prepared to answer general questions about the city: where to park, where to eat, how to get to other attractions.
This position requires a start time fifteen minutes prior to the work shifts determined by the museum, which may include evening hours, holidays, and weekends. The Museum Store Clerk must be adaptable to change in terms of roles, location and responsibilities as the museum works to grow with added visitors, exhibitions and events.
Dress Code: Business professional. During the Dressing Downton™ exhibition (October 4, 2017 – January 7, 2018), employees may be asked to wear specific Dressing Downton™ inspired accessories.
DRESSING DOWNTON™ is coming to the Lightner Museum, October 4, 2017 – January 7, 2018. Due to the anticipated increase in volume of visitors, additional temporary employment opportunities are being created. These positions are available at the Lightner Museum for those who genuinely like people and who want to create a positive experience for visitors. Employment opportunities are available starting July 2017. Full-time employment status is preferred.
