Part-time Exhibitions and Collections Department Assistant

Florida Holocaust Museum, St. Petersburg

The Exhibition & Collections Department Assistant will provide dedicated support to many aspects of department operations,  projects and administrative support.  The Exhibition & Collections Department Assistant will work closely to the Curator of Exhibitions & Collections and provide support to the Registrar & Exhibitions Manager to assist in a variety of responsibilities which may include but are not limited to:

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain departmental calendars
  • Drafting and processing of purchase orders and other department related documentation
  • Traveling exhibition mailings and follow-up outreach  
  • Scheduling and travel coordination of couriers and program speakers
  • Provides clerical support where needed
  • Miscellaneous correspondence including exhibit notices to donors

Exhibition & Collections:

  • Assists with research regarding special exhibitions, permanent collection, exhibitions and special projects
  • Maintains department filing systems for exhibitions, loans, objects, and donors
  • Assists with interpretation of the collection including proofreading and writing
  • Assists with answering public and scholarly inquiry
  • Possible interviews of Holocaust Survivors
  • Works closely with the Curator and Registrar to contribute to the planning on rotations in core galleries and special exhibition spaces including assistance with installation

 Experience/Qualifications:

  • Strong writing and proofreading ability
  • Strong administrative experience
  • BA in Museum Studies, History or related area
  • Sensitivity to issues of racism/intolerance and Holocaust survivorship
  • Strong recognition of the importance of historical artifacts and archives
  • Ability and willingness to learn and follow proper handling practices
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, databases and other computer programs
  • Familiarity with digital imaging, photography, and related equipment
  • Strong attention to detail without compromising ability to multi-task
  • High level of organization
  • Self-motivated, consistently responsible and dependable
  • Ability to lift, move and/or carry 15 pounds and to assist other staff with large, heavy and awkward items (including objects, exhibition furniture, or storage crates)
  • Ability to climb ladders or stairs for object storage, transport and/or maintenance as needed
