New exhibit coming to the Silver River Museum
February 2020 - The Silver River Museum will open a special new exhibit titled Dugout Canoes: Paddling through the Americas. This world class exhibit features Native American canoes from across North and South America; including several examples from Florida.  Exhibits are interactive with hands-on activities for visitors of all ages.

The exhibit grand opening will coincide with the Silver River Knap-In and Prehistoric Arts Festival on the weekend of February 15-16, 2020. This event sees expert flint knappers, potters, bow makers, shell and bone carvers, brain tanners and dugout canoe carvers from across the United States gather to demonstrate their skills and sell artwork. Professional archaeologists also staff educational booths and offer presentations on prehistoric cultures of the Southeast.

The exhibit was produced by the Florida Museum of Natural History with support from the AEC Trust, Lastinger Family Foundation, State of Florida, and Visit Gainesville. The museum expansion project was made possible with support from the Felburn Foundation, The Florida Museum of Natural History, Bowden Construction Services and Innovel Solutions.

The Silver River Museum is located within the Silver Springs State Park and is open to the public every Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm and most holidays.
