Responsibilities
The Exhibition Designer is responsible for designing all special exhibitions and installations on the Ringling Campus.

Responsibilities will include:

Serves as a member of collections team; collaborates with curators, registrars, conservators, marketing, lending institutions, and education in planning all upcoming exhibitions to fulfill both the exhibition’s vision and the museum’s mission.
Researches ideas and materials, recommends solutions for design problems, and utilizes design techniques to produce innovative designs and clear opportunities for interpretation and education. Coordinates with outside vendors in cooperation with Senior Preparator to implement the design of an exhibition or installation.
Uses design software to create pre-plan based on object specifications and available space. Designs and produces exhibition/display graphics. Remains current in software development and equipment pertinent to the evolution of the field. Reconciles all of the objects and graphics to the gallery spaces, understanding ADA compliance, security of the objects, exhibition flow, and the conservation requirements of the objects.
Effectively communicates designs and oversees design/fabrication of exhibition components. Administers timelines and casework schedules for outside bidding.
Occasionally assists with movement of exhibition components, and installing in the gallery setting. Occasionally, uses motorized vehicles and lifts to fulfill job duties. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Studio Art, Art History or Media and Performing Arts, or other relevant field and 2 years of experience
- Please note that a High School Diploma or equivalent and a combination of 6 years of higher education and/or relevant experience can be substituted for a bachelor’s degree.
Knowledge of graphic layout techniques and art in a digital format.
Knowledge of exhibit displays, display design and installation. May include framing, art installation, construction and finishing, carpentry work, alterations and repairs.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Valid Florida Driver’s License or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Ability to meet physical requirements as determined by position. Ability to climb ladders, lift, and move objects up to 50 lbs.

Preferred

Five years of experience in a museum environment. An interest in new media and technology, with strong organizational skills. A strong knowledge and familiarity with The Museum System.
Experience with InDesign, Photoshop, Computer Assisted Design (CAD), Google Sketch-up or equivalent design programs.
Knowledge of the concepts, principles and practices of collections management to include proper handling, installation, preservation and/or maintenance.
Ability to manage budget expenses and time constraints related to the design/production of exhibition and project installations.
Ability to work with internal stakeholders to develop designs that meet the needs of the projects while adhering to pre-established deadlines.

Anticipated Salary Range
The anticipated rate of pay will start at $38,000 annually and a final offer will be based on the education, skills, and experience of the selected candidate. Please note that majority of applicants will be offered at midpoint of range.

Schedule
Monday – Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM with a one hour meal period.

Criminal Background Check
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
