Wynwood Walls
Private Wynwood Graffiti/Mural Walking Tour, 1.5 hours long
Wynwood Walls was established in 2009 by the legendary Tony Goldman of GoldmanProperties, as an outdoor museum of international street art. Since the first year’s program-featuring Kenny Scharf, Futura, Os Gemeos, Swoon, Shepard Fairey, and other renowned innovators in street art, Wynwood Walls has become a phenomenon, spurring the creation of murals throughout the Wynwood district. It is now one of the best venues in the world to see the work of leading street artists. Each year, a selection of both national and international artists-that range from old school graffiti artists to up and coming talents-have created artwork for the Wynwood Walls. In 2012,
Join your FAM cohorts on a thought-provoking private walking tour through the Wynwood Art District. Your guide will engage and entertain you with the background of the Wynwood phenomenon, its history, rise, and ongoing transformation. Throughout the walk, the guide delves into stories of individual walls and art pieces, the artists, their techniques, and more. The tour may include the discussion of a variety of other topics, like how Art Basel impacts the area, where the galleries have gone, and how the Wynwood scene connects with the larger graffiti – and mural movement in the US. Guests can take pictures and selfies and ask questions.
Tour includes transportation to and from the conference hotel, a private tour guide, and some time on your own to explore!
Deering Estate
Exclusive Deering Estate Private Tour
The Deering Estate preserves the 1920s-era Miami estate of Charles Deering, Chicago industrialist, early preservationist, environmentalist, art collector, philanthropist and first chairman of the International Harvester Company. Nestled along the coast in South Dade, the Deering Estate is a cultural asset and historic site listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 1916, Deering purchased and renovated the Richmond Inn, the area’s only lodging facility, and established it as a winter home for himself and his wife Marion. Deering contracted the notable Coral Gables architect Phineas Paist to build a fireproof structure capable of housing the massive art collection he was removing from his homes in Spain, New York and Chicago. By 1922, the Stone House was completed and was being filled with the tapestries, paintings, books and antique furnishings he had spent decades collecting.
Join your FAM colleagues on an exciting private guided tour by Deering Estate’s Museum Manager, Melissa, Diaz, to hear the amazing history of the Richmond Cottage, the first hotel between Coconut Grove and Key West, and the Stone House, a tiny piece of Deering’s beloved Barcelona recreated on Biscayne Bay. After the tour concludes, you will have time to explore nature trails and other natural preservation areas on the grounds of this beautiful site.
