Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in history, art history, museum studies, humanities, anthropology, social sciences, arts administration, or a related field.
One (1) year work experience in a museum, archives, library, education, or cultural organization.
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends.
Availability on Tuesday to Saturday between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Preferences:
Two (2) to three (3) years of experience in a museum, archives, library, education, or cultural organization.
One (1) year experience supervising employees, volunteers, or leading teams or projects.
Master’s degree or graduate hours from an accredited college/university in history, art history, museum studies, humanities, anthropology, social sciences, arts administration, or a related field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Work with Executive Director to develop and implement: The Grove Museum strategic plan; annual work plans, reports, and requests, interagency training, collaboration, and resource sharing; and ongoing training for new and current staff.
Lead educational vision and initiatives of the museum with the executive director, setting goals and timelines to ensure steady progress. Direct work of the Visitor Services & Museum Program Coordinator and the two Museum Educators. Provide oversight of The Grove Museum in the absence of the Executive Director. Develop, manage, implement, and evaluate interpretation, outreach, special events, and day-to-day tours and programs. Increase opportunities for educational engagement in the museum and on the grounds. Co-curate exhibits with Grove and Bureau of Museums staff. Research and implement museum education best practices to attract new audiences and support existing audiences with an emphasis on dialogue and interactive experiences. Research and incorporate historical research findings and collections into new and existing programs in the museum and on the grounds to support The Grove Museum’s mission.
Cultivate local K-16 connections and community partners to develop and implement a K-12 museum/schools’ program and undergraduate paid internship program. Work with Friends of Florida History, Inc. to identify funding sources.
Assist with day-to-day museum operations. Perform site opening/closing procedures and light housekeeping. Contribute to upkeep of museum grounds, which may include preparing for and cleaning up after severe weather. Give guided tours of the house and grounds for all ages on the history of slavery and civil rights in the United States. Perform collections care and collections management with supervision. Perform research on the site’s history and its museum collections. Contribute to social media initiatives. Support record-keeping and administrative tasks as needed. Assist with other Department of State activities or initiatives as needed.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent oral and written communications skills. Knowledge of American history and museum education. Ability to discuss difficult history with the public, including the history of slavery and civil rights in the United States. Ability to develop, manage, implement, and evaluate museum educational tours, programs, interpretation, and initiatives. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge of education and training. Ability to teach others how to do something. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to motivate, develop, and direct people as they work. Ability to understand pertinent rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Ability to work in spaces and with objects that might be dirty or dusty. Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, stretch, and/or twist. Ability to perform light housekeeping duties, such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, and cleaning restrooms. Ability to lift, move, carry, and/or push items weighing up to 20 lbs. Ability to understand and follow established procedures and policies. Proficiency in standard office software.
