The Project Management Specialist 1 is primarily responsible for work that involves completing a variety of tasks in the county historical museum, Heritage Village. This position is responsible for analysis, inspection, and preservation maintenance of historic buildings located on Heritage Village property; making suggestions for preservation care; overseeing preservation projects; consulting historic documents to ensure that repairs and upkeep to historic buildings maintain the original appearance of the building and surrounding landscape; and recruiting and working with historic preservation and maintenance volunteers. The Project Management Specialist I will also work with the Operations Manager in coordinating the Historic Structures Report Internship. Essential Tasks
Applies appropriate treatments as defined by historic preservation best practices and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties in coordination with museum staff.
Identifies, evaluates, and documents historic building materials, methods, and construction techniques.
Coordinates the preparation and update of Historic Structure Reports consistent with the Heritage Village Historic Structure Report Internship.
Recognizes potential life safety hazards on historic buildings; coordinate with staff for abatement services.
Works closely and coordinate with Heritage Village staff; county staff; contractors; historic preservation and maintenance volunteers to complete projects.
Coordinates and manage work orders to facilitate historic building needs.
Coordinates pest management care in coordination with museum staff.
Keeps pace with recurring building inspections and daily work orders.
Manages inventory and restocking of maintenance supplies and preservation materials.
Trains new and existing historic preservation and maintenance volunteers on historic preservation techniques
Collaborates with museum staff to develop historic preservation projects.
Coordinates the activities of historic preservation and maintenance volunteers as needed for projects and activities.
Serves as back up for opening and closing Sunday through Thursday.
Responsible for opening/closing the building when a volunteer is not available.

Position Specific Qualifications
6 years professional experience in project management that includes 2 years professional experience in historic preservation; or Associate degree in historic preservation, history, museum studies or a related field and 4 years professional experience in project management that includes 2years professional experience in historic preservation; or Bachelor’s degree in historic preservation, history, museum studies or related field and 2 years professional experience in project management and historic preservation; or Master’s degree in historic preservation, history, museum studies or related field and some professional experience in project management and historic preservation.
Possession and maintenance of a valid State of Florida Driver’s License upon hire with eligibility based upon evaluation of a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) driving report.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.
Highly Desirable
Master’s degree in historic preservation, history, museum studies or related field and 2 years of professional experience in historic preservation; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
Preservation carpentry, or general construction experience
Organizational/Project Management skills
Communications skills
Experience managing or coordinating projects and volunteers.
Experience with AutoCAD or SketchUp
Work with construction plans, drawings and specifications.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles, practices and standards of Historic Preservation asset forth by the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
Knowledge of preservation carpentry or general construction experience.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
Proficient in AutoCAD.
Skilled in project management.
Ability to track and schedule volunteers.
Ability to maintain records and produce clear written and oral reports.
Ability to deal with a diverse range of people.
Ability to manage a variety of tasks.
Ability to cooperate and collaborate with others; resolve conflict and negotiate; advocate, influence and guide others.
