Museum Educator

Located in downtown St. Augustine, the Lightner Museum is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization registered in the State of Florida.

The Lightner Museum seeks a Museum Educator to support our mission by delivering comprehensive and dynamic learning programs for a wide range of audiences. The Museum Educator will work in collaboration with the museum’s Executive Director to establish educational programming and will
develop and lead a wide range of educational activities. The successful candidate will be an outgoing, team-oriented, and flexible individual, with a can-do work ethic and a strong belief in the personal and social impact that the arts and arts education can have on all audiences in contemporary society.
Candidates must have a combination of skills and experience related to teaching and working well with audiences of all ages, especially children.

Your Day-to-day Work
• In collaboration with the Executive Director, establish strategic short- and long-term vision for Lightner Museum’s educational offerings.
• Develop and implement a variety of learning strategies to engage diverse audiences (adult, youth, families, schools) in museum-related programming.
• Develop age-appropriate tours and programs for K-12 students.
• Plan, coordinate, and deliver school and public programs (general, curriculum focused, outreach, children/youth, etc.).
• Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with area schools and community organizations.
• Develop educational materials for in person and online learning including but not limited to:  lesson plans, educational activities, teacher guides, and other resources.
• Assist with the training of volunteer docents.
• Assist in grant writing for support of education-related activities.
• Maintain education department budget.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You Bring
• Bachelor’s degree in art history, museum studies, education, or closely related field.
• Minimum of 2 years experience in a museum or cultural arts environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to engage students in a dynamic and energetic manner.
• Approaches all responsibilities and goals with a growth mindset and aspirational outlook.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships among colleagues.
• Flexibility, versatility, and adaptability.

Position Classification: Full time, non-exempt. Lightner Museum offers a competitive salary,
