This dynamic position is based in Sarasota, Florida, one of the cultural hubs in Florida. This position will interact with one of the largest fine arts library collections in the Southeast United States: The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art Library. This position maintains the library’s cataloging, digital resources, digital collection, and facilitates public access to the collection through electronic resources such as the Online Public Access Catalog (OCLC). The incumbent also assists the Head of Library services with management of periodicals, and budget.

Typical responsibilities will include:

Manages, updates, and maintains the library’s electronic catalogue and performs original and copy cataloging based on current standards under the general supervision of the Head Librarian.
Maintains bibliographic records through FSU’s integrated library system and OCLC.
Manages digital resources and digital projects for the library.
Maintains standards for the digitization and cataloguing of library materials in collaboration and coordination with other museum departments and FSU.

As needed, this role:

Acts as liaison to IT and DAM committee. Will represent the library’s holdings when DAM is implemented.
Assists with the management of the budget, periodicals, and the training and direction of volunteers and interns.

Important skills relevant to this role include:

Knowledge of concepts, principles and practices of collections management to include:
Proper handling
Installation
Preservation/Maintenance
Original and copy cataloguing
The policies and practices of library services
Applicable computer applications and basic computer functions such as Microsoft Office Suite

Qualifications

Education

Master’s degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS, MSI) from an accredited ALA college or university

Physical

Lift boxes of books and supplies up to 25 lbs., transport books, and reach overhead to shelve books.

Preferred Qualifications

One or more years of cataloging experience
Experience with an integrated library system (ILS)
Knowledge of and experience with metadata schemas
Previous experience working with and training volunteers
