Under the direction of the Senior Curator, the Curatorial Assistant plays an integral role participating in the presentation of MOCA JAX’ innovative exhibitions by the finest international, national, and regional artists.
Typical Responsibilities: Assists with all aspects of exhibition and collection organization and maintenance, including interacting with artists and locating potential loans; loan correspondence; data entry; image scanning; generating checklists and other reports; compiling installation requirements and restrictions, etc. Assists in developing exhibition planning process timelines. Liaises with Marketing department by locating images, securing copyright permissions, compiling research as directed, fact checking texts and back matter, mailing catalogues to photo and object lenders for exhibition-related publications; as well as preparing approved content for media. Assists Curator with writing exhibition-related didactics including object label copy and wall texts. Participates in the installation process under the Registrar. Assists Curator in preparing Acquisition reports and PowerPoint presentations for potential Permanent Collection objects; This role coordinates with staff throughout the museum to ensure the smooth integration of communications related to the Curatorial Department across all departments, and interacts with public and works with donors as needed.
This position requires either (a) Master’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization; (b) Bachelor’s degree from an acceptable accredited institution in a directly related area of specialization and two years of experience directly related to the job functions; or (c ) 6 years of direct experience.
