EXHIBITIONS MANAGER
POSITION DESCRIPTION

DEPARTMENT: COLLECTIONS AND EXHIBITIONS
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: DIRECTOR OF COLLECTIONS AND EXHIBITIONS
STATUS: FULL-TIME (nonexempt)
HOURS: 40 HRS/ WEEK
Pay Rate: $45,000-$50,000 commensurate with experience
BENEFITS: PTO, paid sick time, health insurance options, 403(b) retirement plan

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Exhibitions Manager is responsible for managing, planning, and staging the operational, logistical and fabrication aspects of the Museum’s temporary and permanent exhibits.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Sources high quality temporary exhibitions for changing gallery spaces.
• Leads fabrication and installation of in-house and contracted exhibits to ensure opening deadlines are met.
• Responsible for safely packing, moving, and storing exhibition components and crates.
• Supervises contracts and vendors of exhibition installations, deinstallations, or renovation of existing exhibits.
• Cleans, repairs, and refurbishes permanent exhibition components and spaces.
• Collaborate with other departments on the production of displays and interactives.
• Communicate well with staff on timelines, exhibition openings, and resources for exhibits.
• Oversee safety of staff and guests on or around work sites.
• Coordinates with the Facilities department on exhibition maintenance.
• Build budgets and timelines for projects from exhibition design to fabrication and installation
• Assists the Director of Collections and Exhibitions in preparing an annual budget for exhibitions.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Any combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to five years’ experience in exhibition procurement, preparation, fabrication, and maintenance. (A portfolio of work may be required.)

Skills and Abilities
A successful candidate will have the following skills and abilities:
• A passion for museums and bringing high quality exhibitions to our community.
• A well-rounded knowledge of construction, fabrication, and demolition of exhibitions.
• Experience with general shop equipment including wood and metal working, hand and power tools.
• Skilled in vinyl graphic application and a variety of label making techniques.
• Skilled use of and certification in forklift operation preferred.
• Knowledge of best practices in art/artifact handling.
• Strong administrative skills with the ability to organize, delegate, and ensure good communication within teams; ability to collaborate with external vendors and installers.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
• A positive attitude that is aligned with the Bishop’s ethos of sparking curiosity for science and nature, and working with integrity and empathy.

TIME COMMITMENTS:
Hours are generally Monday-Friday, between 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, but may fluctuate during exhibit installation and teardowns.
