Havana Cigar Days at the Havana Shade Tobacco Museum
This event takes place at “The Planters Exchange” a National Registered Historic site that includes over 21,000 SF of Museum exhibits (the current highlighted exhibit is the “Barns of Gadsden County”).
Program highlights include:
- talks (“People & Events Which Shaped this Area”) as told by some of the most prominent area family members who contributed substantially to both the history and culture of this area – this year’s highlighted family histories include James Harold Thompson (former Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives); Eugene Lamb (former Commissioner & TCC Board member); and Gerald Nelson (former Planters Exchange site manager).
-
Popular sessions include “Cigars & Bourbons,,” Cigar Rolling Demonstrations & Instruction by Luis Gonzalex (formerly of Cuba), an open discussion on the preservation and renovations at this site for both cultural and community uses – funded through both local and State Historical Preservation funding.
-
An amazing Silent Auction (well beyond cigar items) & food booths, and local Havana area club tents.
-
“Antiques & Artisans” – a 9,000 SF shop rated as one of the best in the region… which is housed within the historic site (circa 1928)
