Opportunity
The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium seeks a Guest Services Manager to oversee front desk and museum admissions operations. The Guest Services Manager will play a key role in ensuring smooth front-of-house operations and welcoming and orienting approximately 60,000 visitors to the Museum each year. This is a full-time position with benefits including health insurance, toll reimbursement, PTO and paid holidays, and reciprocal admission to other museums. The Guest Services Manager works in close collaboration with the Director of Retail to provide overall management to Guest Services staff, and reports to the Executive Director.
Responsibilities Include:
• Managing procedures for opening and closing museum admissions
• Scheduling Guest Services staff
• Procedures for processing admissions and membership sales
• Reconciling daily admissions income
• Maintaining a standard, organization, and appearance for the welcome lobby, some of the exhibits, and other public areas
• Approach and execution welcoming and orienting visitors
• Design and lead training for admissions and front of house staff
• Work with other museum staff to identify needs to improve the visitor experience and implement actions to achieve those goals
• Manage purchase and inventory of basic museum supplies related to accommodating visitors
• Work with the Director of Retail and to ensure a unified and collaborative approach to engagement with visitors
• Occasional evening hours to accommodate special events at the Museum.
• One weekend day must be part of the Guest Services Manager’s weekly schedule.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in retail, or a non-profit or public service organization with significant public-facing operations
• Experience managing a group schedule and working on a team. Some supervisory staff experience is preferred.
• A general comfort level with basic computer and software technology and ability to learn the Museum’s admissions processing software (Versai)
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interact cheerfully with a broad range of people visiting the Museum
• Strong organizational skills and reliability
• An interest in museums, shells, or marine life is a plus but not a requirement
While not a requirement for consideration for this position, candidates with strong IT experience or ability are encouraged to make that known when applying. An eventual final scope of the job may be expanded to accommodate that.

The Bailey-Matthews National Shell Museum & Aquarium is a natural history museum and aquarium with a primary focus on shells, mollusks, marine life, and conservation education. It is a non-profit, educational organization that is accredited by both the American Alliance of Museums and the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
The Museum’s permanent exhibits include the Great Hall of Shells and the Living Gallery of Aquariums which displays hundreds of animals including octopuses, conchs, Giant Clam, California Sea Hare, fish, corals, and more.
