Tallahassee Museum, Tallahassee
Closing Date: Sep 30,2026
The Tallahassee Museum is seeking a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to serve as a trusted partner to the President/CEO and help ensure strong, accountable, and effective organizational performance.
Reporting directly to and working closely with the President/CEO, the COO will provide leadership and oversight, within delegated authority, for the Museum’s financial and accounting operations, human resources, administration, and coordination of daily operations. The COO will help translate organizational priorities into action, ensure that staffing and operations are aligned with realistic revenues and available financial resources, and work with department managers to establish clear expectations, monitor performance, promote accountability, and ensure timely follow-through.
The COO must balance responsiveness to staff with responsibility to the Museum as a whole, maintain appropriate confidentiality, and keep the President/CEO fully informed of significant operational, financial, and personnel matters. The position requires a practical, collaborative leader who can provide candid advice, communicate decisions accurately, respect established lines of authority, and support the consistent implementation of decisions made by the President/CEO and Board.
The successful candidate must have prior experience in nonprofit administration and organizational operations, along with strong, hands-on experience in accounting and financial management, human resources, staff supervision, and performance
management. Proficiency with QuickBooks is required. The individual must also be comfortable learning and using business and administrative technology systems, resolving routine operational issues, and coordinating with outside technology providers and software vendors. Knowledge of museum management and constituent relationship management systems, preferably Blackbaud Altru, is desirable.
With the Museum entering an important period of organizational development and leadership continuity, the COO will play a central role in strengthening internal operations, management effectiveness, financial sustainability, and long-term organizational readiness.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to one of Tallahassee’s most valued cultural institutions and the community it serves.
