Position:  DEPUTY ADMINISTRATOR, MORIKAMI MUSEUM
Salary: $67,387 Annually
Department: Parks and Recreation/Special Facilities Administration
Location: Morikami Museum, 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach
Hours: 40 Variable hours/week, including evenings, weekends and holidays
Other:  Valid Florida Driver’s License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens has been a center for Japanese art and culture in South Florida for over 40 years.  This well-funded museum features three exhibition galleries, a 225-seat theater, a tea house, 16 acres of gardens, an expansive bonsai display, café, store, over 7,000 Japanese art objects/artifacts and over 200,000 in annual visitation.  In addition to County operation the museum is supported by an active non-profit organization - the Morikami Inc.  The Deputy Administrator is a highly responsible, leadership position supporting the Administrator, Morikami Park (Director) in the daily operations and financial management.  Serves as intermediary between the Director and primary staff, supervising the major functions of the museum, curatorial, maintenance, business, security, finance, information technology, audio visual, and volunteer coordination. Oversees the budget, personnel, programming and operations within a designated area of assigned responsibilities.  Serves as subject matter expert of Japanese history/language/culture and museum principles/practices supported by the American Alliance of Museums (AAM).  Work is performed under the general direction of the Director and is reviewed for operations efficiency, conformance with policies/objectives and results achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Natural Science or one of the Humanities majors; minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience at a museum or historical site.

PREFERENCE FOR:  Five (5) years of work experience at an AAM accredited museum (must specify on application); experience implementing AAM guidelines/facilitating the accreditation process (must specify on application); education/experience in Japanese history/culture (must specify on application); a Master’s Degree in Museum Science/Asian Studies.
