Overview:
The Orange County Regional History Center is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Museum Registrar - Digital Archivist. The History Center is a national multi-award-winning, AAM accredited, and Smithsonian affiliated institution centered around its mission: to serve as the gateway for community engagement, education, and inspiration by preserving and sharing Central Florida’s continually unfolding story.

This position is responsible for the management and oversight of the museum’s digital collection and establishment of a Legacy Lab, and for processing, digitizing, cataloging, and creating access to the museum’s digital archival collection. Work is performed under the supervision of the Curator of Collections.

Representative Duties

  • Assists Curator of Collections in managing and strategically expanding the digital collection of the museum.
  • Develops and performs specialized procedures and workflows in digital archives handling, management, metadata creation, storage, preservation, and exhibition.
  • Communicates with donors, lending institutions, and staff for acquisitions and loans.
  • Demonstrates extensive knowledge of and ability to use a wide variety of media, file systems, software, programs, and file formats.
  • Demonstrated experience with renaming files, migrating file formats, transcoding video, embedding metadata, and running fixity checks.
  • Coordinates, trains, and supervises volunteers or interns that work in the digital collection.
  • Ensures adherence to archival best standards, principles, and practices in the preservation and digitization of museum materials, and remains aware of emerging technologies and trends.
  • Maintains knowledge of copyright, donor restrictions, and permissions issues related to processing and access of digitized and born-digital materials.
  • Identifies funding, collaborations, and grant opportunities in support of digital initiatives.
  • Works with the marketing department to enhance awareness of the museum’s digital collections with both internal and external audiences.
  • Assists with special events held by the society for the museum.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree from an accredited institution in History, Museum Studies, Library Sciences,

Digital Archives or Preservation, or a closely related field and one year of experience working in a museum, archive, library, or comparable institution which includes digital archives management.

Preferences

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in library science, archival studies, museum studies, history, or a closely related field.
  • At least three years of experience with preservation, digitization of, and archival experience with born-digital and digitized image collections within an academic, research, museum, or special library setting.
  • Knowledge of digital asset management systems and databases.
  • Effective and exceptional written and verbal communication skills with both internal teams and external stakeholders and donors, as well as in public speaking.
  • Knowledge of archival digitization workflows.
  • Understanding of records management practices, trends, and issues, especially as pertaining to those associated with digital content.
  • Possesses a strong working knowledge of museum best practices.
  • Familiarity with Proficio and Preservica databases.
  • Grant writing and grant support experience.
  • Historical anthropological knowledge of Florida and American material culture.

The above description and qualifications are not all-inclusive and represent a majority of the key responsibilities of this position. Other duties may be assigned as required to fulfill the directives of the strategic plan or as designated by executive staff. Work environment is a combination of office setting with some driving between the office to the museum and off-site storage; must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

*Final Candidates must successfully pass a background screening and fingerprinting, must be able to live and work in the United States, and will be required to pass a drug test. Interview and relocation expenses are not offered.

Additional Information:

Hours Per Week: 40 Hours

Schedule: Generally, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Monday – Friday, evenings and weekends may be required.

Primary Work Location:  Orange County Regional History Center, 65 E. Central Blvd., Orlando, FL 32801 with significant portions of time spent at the offsite facility located approximately 30 minutes from the museum.

Salary: $21.02 to $34.10
