Director of Institutional Giving

As the Norton proudly celebrate its 80th anniversary in 2021, they are seeking a creative and dynamic individual for the role of Director of Institutional Giving.  

The Director of Institutional Giving is responsible for raising funds from, and managing relationships with foundation, government and corporate supporters and prospects. The position is focused most heavily on major gifts (greater than $25,000), but naturally intersects with special events, membership, facility rentals and campaign activities. Other related areas of responsibility include endowment stewardship, support of the planned giving, donor recognition, and budgeting.

Job Responsibilities

  • Research and supervise research of grant opportunities (foundation, local, state and federal government and institutional)
  • Write and supervise writing of grant proposals (foundation, government, corporate)
  • Coordinate grant fulfillment (foundation, government, corporate)
  • Write and supervise writing of grant reports (foundation, government, corporate)
  • Maintain strong relationships with institutional supporters and prospects
  • Participate in department budgeting, setting major gift goals on an annual basis
  • Work closely with the Finance department and participate in major gifts financial reporting
  • Support Development Committee activities
  • Review Development communications (Letters, Invitations, Briefing sheets, Donor listings, etc.) and proofread Norton communications involving donor recognition
  • Steward endowments (designation, recognition, reporting)
  • Support the annual Museum Gala and fundraising events
  • Support membership initiatives
  • Support, as needed, other initiatives requiring compilation of broad institutional information (reaccreditation, Association of Art Museum Directors report, etc.)
  • Liaison with Director/CEO on any Board of Trustee matters

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in grant writing, fundraising or related work
  • Museum experience a plus
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills, adaptable to a wide variety of formats
  • Proven ability to develop relationships and establish trust across diverse groups 
  • Administrative, fundraising and budget management experience   
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives keeping all in balance and delivering on time and on budget  
  • Positive, “can-do” attitude, team-oriented, attention to detail, results driven and demonstrated initiative
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Bachelor's degree required
