Supervisor:      Executive Director

Salary Range:  $35,000 - $40,000 annually

Job Summary:  The Education Manager is a key staff member responsible for developing and managing programmatic opportunities for the education and enjoyment of museum audiences, as well as managing the center’s Art School.   

Duties:

  • Manage the center’s Art School, which includes:
    • Recruiting and managing contract art instructors
    • Working with instructors to refine courses, as well as develop new courses and workshops
    • Developing the seasonal art school schedule, and managing all registration and other digital databases associated with the classes
    • Assisting students with registration
    • Processing student and instructor payments
    • Working with marketing to promote and advertise for the classes
  • Manage other educational initiatives, which includes:
    • Developing and implementing educational workshops and lesson plans that unite the institution’s dual focus of art and history
    • Working with local school and homeschool groups to conduct outreaches and other youth programs, as well as coordinating and conducting onsite field trips
    • Conducting interpretative educational  group tours for youth and adult groups
    • Working with local senior groups and center to conduct both offsite and onsite workshops
    • Conduct regular family activity days onsite that correspond with current exhibitions
  • Represent the organization with hands-on activities and other community engagement projects at festivals, fairs, and other leisure gatherings.
  • Supervise the part-time Education Coordinator
  • Train, supervise and retain volunteers to assist with all programming functions;
  • Develop and oversee a programming budget that is financially sustainable, working with the Advancement Department staff to obtain funding through grants, sponsorships and donations
  • Complete other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of and experience with educational methods and tools, including the development of lesson plans and other programming
  • An enthusiasm for museums and the humanities
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Familiarity with artistic mediums and disciplines is a plus
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task efficiently and respond to a high volume of ongoing requests in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrated success in working with a culturally diverse community
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office, such as Word and Excel. Familiarity with CRM programs such as Patron Manager is a plus.  
  • Must be available for a flexible schedule that includes some evenings and weekends
  • At least three (3) years related professional experience
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in a related field
