Museum Commerce Supervisor
Cracker Country is a rural Florida living history museum located on the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa. Set on four acres of majestic live oak trees, the museum includes many structures built between 1870-1912 that were relocated from around the state, restored and furnished to represent home life, commerce and transportation as it was in many rural Florida communities just before the turn of the 20th century. The museum welcomes guests annually during the Florida State Fair and operates year-round educational field trips and public events.

Cracker Country has an immediate opening for a Museum Commerce Supervisor. This part time, year round position is responsible for coordinating retail operations of the museum General Store.

Key Responsibilities:
Responsible for operation of museum gift shop and annex sales outlets, including daily sales, cash/credit reconciliation and inventory management. Responsible for overall presentation of gift shop and merchandise displays. Works with museum staff to source merchandise that is appropriate to the theme and mission of the museum. Maintains inventory stock and storage areas.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises up to 10 paid and volunteer docents.

Qualifications/Education/Certifications:
Minimum high school diploma or equivalent; college courses in retail management preferred. Minimum three years progressively responsible experience in retail sales, management and merchandising. Retail management experience in a museum setting highly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Staff management and mentoring skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of current practices in inventory management and retail point of sale systems
  • Excellent cash handling and record-keeping skills
  • Intermediate math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide, calculate percentages)
  • Ability to act professionally and sensitively with diverse audiences
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other museum and fairgrounds staff, volunteers and outside contractors to achieve museum goals
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook) and retail point of sale software required, payroll processing and financial management programs (Paylocity, Ungerboeck) preferred
  • Ability to work flexible schedule

Physical Demands/Working Conditions:
Duties are performed 50% in an office setting. Operates computer and standard office equipment. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear, and routinely lift or move more than 25 pounds. Environmental elements include exposure to wetness or humidity and outdoor weather conditions.
