We are seeking a new Chief Philanthropy Officer, experienced in cultivating and stewarding donor relationships while building a level of engagement in the community that enhances the Museum’s mission and purpose. Oversight of marketing, communications and business development combined with creative events and fundraising efforts creates a role that is fundamental to success for the museum. Our Planetarium features one of the most advanced all-digital projection systems in the world, where we present astronomy programs the whole family will enjoy.
The Parker Manatee Rehabilitation Habitat is part of Florida’s Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership, having served as a temporary home to more than 40 rehabilitating manatees since 1998. Additionally, we have received a $550,000 grant to expand our manatee rehabilitation facilities.
Chief Philanthropy Officer Position Summary
The Chief Philanthropy Officer (CPO), reporting directly to the CEO is a member of the senior leadership team and will oversee and manage all aspects of revenue generation (other than ticket sales) including fundraising plans, community engagement, capital campaigns, events, communications, and marketing. This includes but is not limited to comprehensive capital campaign planning, annual giving, legacy and planned giving, corporate and foundation grants, membership programs, fundraising events, business development and all internal resources, staff, accountability and structures needed to ensure fundraising success and organizational advancement.
Additionally, the CPO will develop dynamic fundraising and revenue strategies to deepen donor relationships and expand the base of support. The CPO collaborates with all Bishop Museum constituencies, including staff, trustees, donors, guests, members, marketing and event personnel, volunteers, and community partners. The CPO also ensures best practices throughout fundraising operations, data management, web development and technology.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of senior development experience in all aspects of development work, including knowledge of moves management, key performance indicators and metrics, and campaign strategic planning principles.
• 5+ years of experience working with leadership donors, including conducting personal solicitations, working with and coaching directors and leadership volunteers to conduct personal solicitations of these donors.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience. Graduate degree and/or CFRE accreditation is a plus.
• A demonstrated passion for and understanding of the Bishop Museum mission and purpose.
• Track record of developing and executing successful multi-year Fund Development plans, including all levels of individual giving, foundations and corporate relations, events, legacy gifts, as well as related marketing and communications strategies to support this work.
• Experience with financial management of a museum or visitor and guest centered organization budget.
• Experience overseeing departments that manage community engagement, marketing, and communications.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills as leader and team player, at ease with a wide and diverse range of constituents.
• Demonstrated proficiency in strategic planning and forward-thinking initiatives.
• Proficient with donor databases and related technology, prospect research and donor metrics to further program effectiveness.
• Able to work frequent evenings and weekends to meet with donors and attend event.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office and G-Suite.

Salary and benefits: Salary commensurate with experience. Full benefits plan includes medical, dental, and vision, plus life insurance and disability plan options. The museum also offers a 403(b) plan, with discretionary matches. A relocation bonus may be provided, as appropriate.
