POSITION PURPOSE:
The Collections Coordinator maintains, manages, controls, preserves, and supports the use of all catalogued objects in the Museum’s History and Natural History Collections.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Primary and Supervisory:
o Supervise Curatorial Internship personnel (future assigned positions)
o Establish and maintain an inventory, condition reporting, and conservation schedule for the History Collection and Natural History Collection in accordance with industry standards (American Alliance of Museums accreditation is primary reference)
o Maintain a high standard of cleanliness in the History Collections Storage and Natural History Collections Storage areas
o Maintain primary administrative control of collections database
o Make recommendations to Vice President of Education & Exhibits for deaccessions of objects from Museum’s collection in accordance with Board of Trustees-approved Collections Management Policy
• Financial:
o Maintain and control appropriate inventory of curatorial supplies

• Programming:
o Support training of docents assigned to conduct Collections tours
o Ensure additional educational offerings that involve Collections objects (e.g., Quantum Carts, Creation Station, Educational Outreach, etc.) are appropriately displayed and used in a manner that protects the items from Collections
o Coordinate with Vice President of Education & Exhibits to create Signature Exhibits using objects from Museum Collections and/or loaned items from other institutions, organizations, and individuals

• Professional Development:
o Seek out and attend professional development workshops and seminars
o Stay current with educational topics, trends, research, and current events
o Establish and maintain working relationships with other educational and cultural agencies

ACCESS REQUIREMENTS:
Access to museum before and after hours, History Collection Storage, Natural History Collection Storage, all public areas, all exhibition floor spaces, Naturalist Center and JEA Science Theater.

SPECIAL AUTHORIZATION:
• Permission to have access to alarm codes for JEA Science Theater and Naturalist Center.
• Must seek Vice President of Education and Exhibits approval on all purchases.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• To be successful, an individual must be able to perform each job duty satisfactorily.
• All employees must maintain current Occupational Health and Safety training as required and provided by MOSH.
• Basic understanding of principles and best practices of working within a nonprofit organization

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
 Bachelor’s degree (or at least Senior level undergraduate status) from an accredited institution in Museum Studies, Anthropology, or similar related field

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
 Must be able to multi-task and work with little supervision
 Must be able to use database systems, Microsoft Office applications, internet, and email
 Must have strong academic research skills

TIME COMMITMENTS:
This position is a maximum of fifteen (15) hours per week between the hours of 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; weekend hours are not anticipated.
