Position: CURATOR, MORIKAMI MUSEUM
Salary: $62,635 Annually, negotiable depending on qualifications
Department: Parks and Recreation/Special Facilities Administration
Location: 4000 Morikami Park Road, Delray Beach
Hours: 40 Variable hours/week; may include evenings, holidays and weekends.
Other: Ability to lift 50 pounds preferred. Valid Florida Driver’s License and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

Oversees all curatorial responsibilities, inclusive of the collections department, exhibitions and educational programming of the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens. Coordinates and conducts meetings with museum staff, County personnel and agencies, board of trustees, contractors, artists, collectors and the public. Ensures that appropriate and accurate record-keeping procedures are maintained for the collections and museum operations. Acts as a spokesperson for the museum when appropriate with the media, and at functions, conferences and meetings. Directs the overall institutional operations in the absence of the Morikami Park Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences or one of the Humanities such as Art History, Museum Studies, Asian History/Studies, Japanese Studies, History and Anthropology with an emphasis in Japanese history and culture; minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in museum work. Equivalencies: Related Master’s Degree and one (1) year of related experience OR unrelated Bachelor’s Degree/related Associate’s Degree AND four (4) years of related experience OR graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification and six (6) years of related experience.

PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE WITH: Japanese history, language and culture; museum administration; fund raising; personnel management and public relations and/or public administration; governmental accounting. Also desirable: Master’s Degree in Japanese Art or Museum Science or Studies.
