GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES
The Director of Education will create and implement programmatic experiences that engage youth, families, visitors and residents in the history programs of the Museum. He/she will design, implement, and evaluate a broad range of innovative and multigenerational educational initiatives.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, highly motivated, organized individual with a passion for delivering quality educational history programs; demonstrates the ability to think creativity and strategically to engage a variety of audiences; possesses excellent communication skills; maintains high energy with a strong work ethic; and performs under pressure to meet deadlines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develops new relationships and maintains established relationships with area cultural and community entities, especially in Palm Beach County. Collaborates with entities to provide programs that illustrate the Museum as an active community resource.
• Coordinates the design, delivery, staffing, and evaluation of on-site and off-site programs for residents and visitors of all ages practicing established education standards and program design methods. Educational programs may include school programs, museum activities, community presentations, history tours and other programs.
• Creates, markets and executes programs for school field trips and other youth groups to the museum
• Teaches programs, supervises volunteers, and manages budget.
• Assists with the development and implementation of assessment tools to evaluate programs.
• Collaborates cross-departmentally to design, deliver, and promote quality programs and activities.
• Participates in museum events such as exhibition openings, volunteer appreciation gatherings, special community days, etc.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND CHARACTERISTICS
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education, History, or related subject required
• Minimum of 5 years teaching experience showing experience in development and implementation of creative programming.
• Knowledge of current education practices, state/national education standards; School Board of Palm Beach County standards preferred; familiar with multigenerational programs
• Experience in building relationships and creating collaborative programs
• Exceptional administrative and organizational skills
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
• Excellent verbal, visual, and written communication skills required with attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively with a variety of personalities and maintain friendly and courteous relationships with the staff, board, cultural partners, and customers
• Ability to work a flexible schedule of hours that will include weekends and some evenings
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met
by an employee to successfully perform functions of this job.
• Mainly move around Town Hall with stairs to 2nd floor; reach, lift, carry, and manipulate various materials, supplies, and light equipment
• Work is performed both on-site and off-site indoors and sometimes outdoors
• Be knowledgeable with the use of and the requirement to wear protective gear when appropriate (PPE will be assigned as needed)
• Be able to function independently
• Be in good general health
• Work requires continuous activity
• Work requires weekends and occasionally may include extended hours
HOURS OF POSITION
40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday, FT Exempt/Salaried, Full Benefits
