JOB SUMMARY
The Palmetto Historical Park preserves the history of Palmetto and the surrounding areas north of the Manatee River by developing exhibits and programming that focus on the city’s history and contributions to our local community. The Palmetto Historical Park boasts an 1880 Post Office, 1920 schoolhouse, 1900s cottage, chapel, military museum, 1914 Carnegie Library and an Archive Center that contribute to the preservation of Palmetto’s history. The Education & Engagement Coordinator performs a critical role in maintaining visitor, membership, and volunteer services; leading promotional and marketing efforts; and assisting in the development and implementation of public programming for the Palmetto Historical Park division of the Historical Resources Department while providing outstanding internal and external customer service. The Education & Engagement Coordinator position is a non-supervisory position reporting to the Supervisor of the Palmetto Historical Park.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Communications, Marketing or related field; or equivalent experience
• Computer literacy which includes, but is not limited to, proficiency in Microsoft Windows suite
• Basic mathematical aptitude, as well as alpha and numeric filing skills are required
• Must be able to operate general office equipment
• One year of recent and relevant experience that demonstrates the ability to apply acute attention to detail in maintenance of detailed data, preferably in an automated systems environment
• Working knowledge of current marketing principles and proficient in use of social media
• Ability to develop and implement educational activities
• Demonstrated ability to work with adults and children in a teaching capacity
• Knowledge of basic principles of education or related classroom/field trip experience
• Demonstrated ability to create digital education content for adults and children
• Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate information in engaging and creative ways; public speaking experience
• Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license
• Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job, including weekends and occasional evenings

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Provides excellent customer service to all in person, in email, and over the phone; is approachable, helpful, and personable; answers questions knowledgeably and with patience
• Greeting upon initial entry, providing directions, etc. Attends to all aspects of visitor experience, including tours when necessary.
• Communicates to visitors a range of general museum information such as visitor rules, where to find things in the buildings, and up-to-date information on current museum programs, events, and exhibits

• Assists with marketing and promotion of the historic site, including maintaining online marketing profiles, maintaining an up-to-date distribution list for e-newsletter, posting events to online calendars, recording social media posts for record, and distributing flyers
• Assists with general administrative duties, including but not limited to setting up for meetings, recording and entering visitation data, digitizing files, and sorting and distributing mail to appropriate staff
• Assists with all aspects of special events and visitor experience
• Assists with all operations of facility, including emergency preparedness, grounds/garden maintenance, and ongoing custodial duties
• Works effectively on a small team; open to learning, able to take constructive feedback and takes responsibility for their own actions, work, and opinions
• Assists management with other related duties as assigned
