POSITION SUMMARY
The Executive Director of the The Albin Polasek Museum & Sculpture Gardens (Polasek) will lead and manage an established arts and culture non-profit organization, founded in 1961 to promote and preserve the works of sculptor Albin Polasek, with an annual budget of $900,000, a staff of seventeen full and part-time employees and many volunteers. Operations include Polasek’s historic home museum, three acres of gardens, an events venue in the historic Capen House, an art gallery with changing exhibits, and an annual Plein air artists fundraiser.
Duties and Responsibilities
● Establish, with the Board of Directors, strategic direction and goals for the organization for both near and long-term.
● Ensure that the organization’s efforts are aligned with its mission, goals and guiding principles.
● Direct the Organization to ensure that program and business operations meet established goals and fiscal stability.
● Provide expertise and guidance ensuring that the Polasek’s programs maintain the highest quality, fulfill targeted outcomes and undergo rigorous program evaluations.
● Develop and maintain exceptional relationships with key donors.
● Actively cultivate major gifts, corporate sponsors, and grants.
● Use external presence and relationships to garner new opportunities.
● Develop and maintain positive relationships with key community and system partners, inviting opportunities for collaboration and establishing avenues for feedback and communication.
● Cultivate board member relationships. Develop, maintain, and build board involvement with strategic direction of the museum.
● Oversee a staff of 17 with 6 direct reports including the Curator, the Facilities Director, the Marketing Coordinator, the Volunteer Coordinator, the Venue Coordinator, the Finance Coordinator, and the Operations Coordinator.
● Actively engage the Board in program updates, fundraising, community involvement and Foundation successes.
Essential Job Requirements
● Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget.
● Strong fundraising and community involvement experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and funding sources.
● Demonstrated success in prior leadership and management positions.
● Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to leading.
● Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people.
● High level of integrity, and a mission-driven mindset.
● Demonstrated ability to drive change and accomplish goals through a team.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills and persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
● Analytical savvy to build, review, and analyze data.
● Detail oriented, adaptable, organized and able to successfully manage multiple projects and tasks.
Qualifications
● Bachelor’s degree required.
● 8-10 years of senior, non-profit or related management experience.
● Prior experience working with a Board of Directors a plus.
