SUMMARY:
The Knight Vice President of Education is a member of the Museum’s Senior Staff and is responsible for the development and management of all educational initiatives within the Museum and those that serve the community at large. This position requires vision and oversight for the development of innovative and inquiry-based approaches to STEM educational programs and exhibits to increase people’s understanding of and interest in science.
The Knight VP of Education maintains the museum’s role as a leader in informal science education and must inspire, lead, and shape a world-class team of science educators, thus ensuring the museum’s continued excellence in science and technology learning for all. This position will work collaboratively across every department in the museum, and more in depth with Advancement, Marketing, Exhibits, Guest Experience and Finance on a variety of projects including federal and foundation grants as well as programs and content development that align with new and current exhibitions. The Knight VP of Education promotes leadership in new learning technologies and new ways to broaden and engage the general public and youth. They will also lead the vision for continuing well established and developing new revenue-based educational programs and oversee the Reservations department, including field trips and outreach.
The Knight VP of Education develops and cultivates new partnerships in the community and with businesses internationally. They will work alongside their team and the SVP of External Affairs to develop and implement a new strategic initiative for increasing the museum’s presence throughout the South Florida community. They will also provide a vision for developing and maintaining new and established partnerships for educational services developed and provided by the museum’s education team.
The Knight VP of Education is expected to stay abreast of new developments in STEM education, communications and policy and identifies and cultivates funding opportunities that align with the Museum’s vision and goals. They will contribute to the informal learning knowledge base through exploratory and experimental research and promotes science education at the museum and beyond through participation in local and national events and meetings, and by developing partnerships with industry, educational institutions, other museums, and science and learning researchers.

Work time will be split between working in an open office setting and on-the-floor providing program oversight. Occasional exposure to outdoor activities may be requested. Weekend and evening work in alignment with programs required.
