Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in history, anthropology, art history, humanities, or a related field OR four years of direct work experience in one of the fields noted
At least one (1) year of paid or volunteer work experience in a museum, archives, or cultural organization
Experience handling and caring for museum collection objects
Knowledge of museum standards of collections management
Knowledge of research methods
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends
Resume and cover letter

Preferences:
Master’s degree in one of the above listed fields
One year of experience working with historical objects
Knowledge of Florida history
Knowledge of and experience communicating with the public about topics in American history, including but not limited to those interpreted at The Grove Museum: Native peoples, slavery, civil rights, environmental history, historic preservation, archaeology, and related fields
Experience working with collections management software

Duties and Responsibilities:
The OPS Curator will work at The Grove Museum performing collections management, research, and exhibit development duties, under the supervision of the site’s Executive Director. The OPS Curator will also to assist with daily museum operations, including visitor services and programming.
Primary duties:
Perform collections management, research, and interpretation duties including
• Serving as curator/historian on project teams; planning for exhibits, initiating or facilitating object loans, preparing/installing exhibit artifacts, writing interpretive material on historical topics, exhibits, and collections
• Caring for and managing The Grove Museum collections and collections database
• Overseeing volunteers or interns on collections management projects
• Researching and responding to public requests for information on objects in The Grove Museum collections
• Providing input on collections policy and procedures
• Overseeing environmental monitoring
• Contributing to daily visitor services, educational programs, outreach, and special events
• Performing research on the site’s history and interpreting its museum collections and related archival materials and objects held by other institutions
• Record-keeping and administrative tasks as needed
• Assist with other Department of State activities or initiatives as needed

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Excellent oral and written communications skills
• Ability to interpret history for the public using primary and secondary sources
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work in spaces and with objects that might be dirty or dusty
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
• Ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time
• Ability to bend, stoop, squat, reach, stretch, and/or twist
• Ability to perform light housekeeping duties, such as dusting, sweeping, mopping and cleaning restrooms
• Ability to lift, move, carry, and/or push items weighing up to 20 lbs.
• Ability to understand and follow established procedures and policies
• Proficiency in standard office software
