Preparator and Exhibition Designer (F/T and P/T)

The Polk Museum of Art in Lakeland, Florida, invites applications for two experienced Preparators and Exhibition Designers (one full-time and one part-time) to join its expert curatorial team.

Reporting to the Executive Director and Chief Curator, the Preparators and Exhibition Designers are key members of Museum staff and are responsible for the design, installation, and deinstallation of Museum exhibitions. As the Polk Museum of Art enters into its exciting next chapter with a 14,000-square-foot expansion set to open in Fall 2024, its new Preparators and Exhibition Designers will oversee the staging of more than 20 loan and permanent collection shows each year.

Job responsibilities:

• Coordinate and ensure the safe handling and installation of works of art and artifacts for each exhibition, alongside curatorial staff.
Prepare objects for display in galleries, including matting and framing of works prior to exhibition.
• Design exhibition layout and presentation, placement of artworks, painting of gallery walls, including lighting of artworks, and other exhibition design elements as needed to create a coherent brand for each exhibition.
• Coordinate the installation schedule and manage related expenses for each exhibition.

The successful candidates will have at least three to five years experience in the museum/gallery fields, a strong eye for exhibition design and a skilled background in handling/hanging/framing objects, and the ability to work well both independently and as a team player.
