Responsibilities
The Tibbals Exhibit Manager coordinates and organizes exhibition installation and maintenance for the Circus galleries and manages the care and upkeep of the Howard Bros. Circus Model and Wisconsin Pullman Car. This position reports directly to the Tibbals Curator of Circus with a dotted line to the Associate Director of Collections/Senior Registrar to coordinate activities and processes.
Oversees the implementation and installation of circus exhibits within the Circus Museum and Tibbals Learning Center in coordination with the Tibbals Curator of Circus.
Collaborates with the Circus Curator, Collections staff, designers (internal Exhibition Designer and contracted designers), and Assoc. Dir. of Facilities to implement exhibitions and address significant collections management concerns including environmental conditions, disaster preparedness planning, and building maintenance.
Manages and supervises OPS Preparators in the Circus department to include hiring and directing work assignments.
Plans, coordinates, and implements the ongoing care of the Howard Bros. Circus Model and the Wisconsin Pullman Car in collaboration with the Circus Curator, Tibbals Circus Registrar and other colleagues across the museum.
Monitors exhibition spaces in the Historic Circus Museum and the Tibbals Learning Center and maintains audiovisual and digital interactives throughout the galleries. Plans and implements lighting strategies throughout the Circus galleries.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree and two years experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.
(Note: higher education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Physical Requirements
Climb high ladders and use lift equipment.
Frequently lift and move objects up to 50 lbs.
Standing for long periods of time.
Skills
A valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Please note a driver’s permit is not acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced knowledge of AV systems
Experience
Installing and handling art/objects within a gallery or museum setting
Gallery lighting
Low voltage electrical repair
Using pallet jacks, J bars, dollies, and/or hand trucks
Knowledge
Museum collections policies and procedures
Driving lifts
Matting/Framing
Art/Artifact transportation and/or packing
General carpentry and painting skills
Proficient in Microsoft Outlook
Ability to
Work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
Effectively manage time, set priorities, and work independently
Follow verbal and written instruction

Anticipated Salary Range

Working Hours
Monday – Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM with one hour for lunch.
This role may be required to work a flexible schedule including evenings or weekends based on the needs of The Ringling.
