Jennifer Lemmer Posey, Tibbals Curator of Circus, Ringling Museum

Jennifer Lemmer Posey is Tibbals Curator of Circus at the John and Mable Ringing Museum of Art in Sarasota, Florida. She earned her Ba in Art History from New College of Florida and an MA in Art History from Florida State University. She joined the staff of The Ringling Museum in 2002 as a collections manager for The Tibbals Circus Collection and today is responsible for curating permanent galleries and rotating exhibitions highlighting the diverse objects that represent the history and cultural impact of the circus arts. 

With special interests in the history and art of posters, costumes, and the relationship of the circus arts and popular culture, Jennifer has contributed to the publications The American Circus (Bard Graduate Center and Yale University Press, 2012) and The Amazing American Circus Poster (Cincinnati Art Museum and The John and Mable Ringing Museum of Art, 2011). Her writings on circus topics have been published in such journals as Early Popular Visual Culture (Routledge), Bandwagon, and the international magazine Planet Circus. From 2013 to 2017 she served as editor for Bandwagon, the Journal of the Circus Historical Society and in 2017, Jennifer served as an Advisory Scholar for the 2017 Smithsonian Folklife Festival, celebrating the Circus Arts.
